Eric in Egypt

Melissa was kind enough to let me do a guest post about my recent trip to Egypt. Microsoft sent me over to interview some engineers for positions here in Boston. While I was there, I got to see some classic Egyptian sites, like this stepped pyramid at Giza. It's one of the earliest pyramids the Egyptians built. It's completely solid--there's a 30-meter shaft below it where the Pharoah's mummy was protected from heat and humidity by the pyramid above. The cobras in the foreground are a sign of protection, and they were redone recently--the originals are long gone.

My colleagues and I saw another classic Egyptian site, EHOP.

We had some great 'pancakes' there--more like pitas stuffed with savory or sweet fillings and topped with more good stuff. I had a pizza-style one, which had goat cheese and an unspecified 'meat' on top. I'm assuming it was beef. One of my colleagues had a banana-honey-powdered-sugar concoction too sweet to eat more than a few bites of. It was quite an experience.

A new pair of shoes

Thanksgiving was pretty much shoe heaven for me! Out in Salt Lake, Christina picked out the cutest pair of Sketchers sandal/sneakers as my birthday present and Mom threw in an awesome pair of blue shoes just because she loves me! Once we got back home, that Sunday, Eric took me out to the Natick Collection ('mall' no longer describes what this place has become) and I got to pick out my 30th birthday present from him... a pair of designer shoes!! After trying on some very lovely shoes, I chose this absolutely gorgeous pair of Manolos, and honestly, the pictures don't do them justice. (I'd also like to add that it is incredibly difficult to take a picture of your own feet, esp in 4" heels!!) These shoes are sooo beautiful in person!!

A White Thanksgiving

Almost a week off school, traveling to see my mom & sisters, and the first snowfall of the year... What a lot to smile about =) I hope your grins are firmly in place as well & that you are having a great Thanksgiving where ever you celebrate!

I can't help snapping a couple of shots of the falling snow.

However, I'm not the only one mesmerized by the first snow of the season.

No if, ands, or butts

As Josh pointed out to me tonight, I've been shamefully neglecting Drifty. I'll try to do better! I just really haven't been taking pictures of anything worth posting, and I hate to bore folks. Plus, I wasn't really sure that anyone out there was still interested in my ramblings!

However with renewed vigor I'll try to post more often, and today, for your viewing enjoyment, I have a shot I took at the zoo on our amazing field trip last week. We had the most exceptional day and a good time was had by all.

Nephew

I meant to post these right after Columbus Day in Oct when I took them, but somehow time just slipped away from me. I can't believe it is almost Thanksgiving. Eric comes back today and I'm mere hours from picking him up at the airport! So, anyway, here's a (very belated) shout-out to my little nephew for being 6 months old! Can't wait to see you again =)

Thinking of You

If you have to have a significant other that travels...it sure is nice to have one that sends flowers! Aren't my roses lovely? Eric is the best!

Matt & Kate

Yesterday I attend my first wedding solo since I met Eric at Legler's wedding 8 years ago! I missed having someone to dance with, but managed to have a great time! Ceremony was lovely and the reception at the Sheraton in Harvard Square was gorgeous.
Congratulations Matt & Kate!
Enjoy Hawaii! Aloha!

Happy Halloween

Halloween is the best! I love that the teachers at my school get dressed up every year! Jackie always has the best ideas. Our signs this year are compliments of her artistry... isn't she amazing? Hope everyone had as great a day as I did and you all have a spooky night ;)
Happy Halloween!

Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs.

Colors

This October has been crazy with travel for us... But I couldn't let my favorite season go by without one picture of the colors! Here is a shot out of my classroom window early one morning. I feel blessed to live in a state that does fall in style. (And has a team that can sweep the World Series! Way to go SOX!)

Playing with Blocks

While men may appear to grow up, Columbus weekend shows that they are all still little boys inside!

Eric builds an elaborate block tower.

Matt decides to join in the fun.

Columbus Gathering

Wow... time keeps moving swiftly past. It's fall and I've taught over 25 days of school already! I have a fabulous class this year and life is pretty great. (Although still no word on a start date for construction...) The following are pics from the annual Columbus Day event. (Held this year in VA at Matt & Lauren's new and very lovely home.) Good times!

The whole gang: Eric, Me, Matty, Lauren, Matt, Rob.

Matty and I enjoying juice, a good book, and each other's company.

Congratulations

So it seems that 2007 is the year of congratulations... Every where I look I see positive changes for my friends and relatives. I've seen weddings, engagements, babies, babies-to-be, job changes, and just well-being. Hopefully this happy energy will roll our way and speed up the second-story process (as currently we have nothing but a headache to show!)

Here are some pictures of one of the best weddings I've had the pleasure to attend. Erin & Andy, not only are you an awesome couple, but you know how to throw a truly marvelous party! Best wishes & lots of love to you both =)

"Yay! We did it!"

Even the car was swanky!

Beautiful people. Beautiful day. Beautiful Port Jeff Country Club.

Very happy couple. Very yummy cake.

My latest project...

It's not that I haven't been taking pictures, it's just that I've been busy these past few weeks starting up a project that Cate & I have been tossing around since the start of our classes in January. We decided to see if our little hobby could sustain itself and Sparklets Jewelry was born! Here is a sampling of some of my photos of our handmade necklaces (with a couple that have yet to be posted!) and if you like what you see...head on over to http://sparklets.etsy.com and pick up a piece for yourself or as a gift!

Summertime

School is out!! I was taking a couple of days to relax and recoup (mostly on the sofa rereading my Harry Potter books in anticipation for the next release) but think I've finally scraped together enough energy to post some photos for you ;) I have a huge backlog of things I haven't even had the time to download off the camera so hopefully I'll have enough material to post consistently for awhile. These are some images from our zip line adventure in Jamaica.

The empty equipment.

Eric swinging in the trees.

And myself (yes, I did manage to overcome my fear of heights, but it was less a leap of the platform and more a dragging of the toes in desperation to hold on!)

A shot of Eric & I in our gear still at the end of the course.

And another of us... just because I was proud of taking a decent self-portrait. Mine are normally terrible!

Rainy Weekend

The next person who makes a comment about school 'winding down' will have to duck as I start throwing anything in reach. Who knew that the end of the school year could be so insane? But, I did find the time this weekend to reach into the Jamaica photos and find these.

While there was the occasional rain shower...

...it was mostly spectacular weather!

Nephew!

I have at least a million shots of the latest addition to the Jewart clan. Get used to it Fionn Martin, we are a camera happy bunch! I will, however, for the sake of those of you not related, try to narrow down the selection I show here. It was wonderful to be able to spend time with the family (including Grandma!), and the weekend flew past in the blink of an eye. Now I'm just counting the days until they are up here to visit! (12, if you were wondering...)

Fionn Martin, man-baby.

The whole family poses together and all look fabulous!
